TEHANI TEHANI was designed for a young man with extensive cruising experience who knew exactly what he wanted in a good performing, long range auxiliary with the potential to go anywhere. The strong aluminum hull is the radius bilge form which we pioneered over 25 years ago and combines the aesthetics of a fully developed round bilge hull with ease of construction. The method has proven ideal for amateur construction as well as for the small shop. The metal work for the first boat was by Frank Sinek of Sinek yachts in Graham, Washington and, as is usual of this builder, she is a sculpture in aluminum, a truly beautiful piece of craftsmanship. The owner will finish up the interior joiner work and rig. With her long waterline, moderately light displacement and generous sail area the TEHANI will meet her owner's requirements for performance very nicely indeed. She will prove to be nimble in light air, and easily snugged down for a blow. The tall rig is strongly supported by double spreaders and running backstays and the mast is keel stepped to assure maximum strength as well. TEHANI's accommodations are laid out for living aboard for the owner, with room for occasional guests. The accent is on spaciousness rather than fitting in the maximum number of berths or a jammy aft "stateroom". There is generous stowage everywhere, of course. Adequate ventilation is provided by 11 opening ports, 2 large vent hatches and 4 dorades. The cockpit is deep and well protected by a hard dodger. Storage is again given serious thought with a separate raft locker, gas bottle locker and lazarette, as well as a deep sail bin. A great deal of thought went into this design in order to provide everything that the circumnavigator would need in a yacht of this size and the drawings are worthy of study. The yachtsman looking for a fast auxiliary sloop capable of going anywhere in the world in comfort and safety would do well to give TEHANI very serious consideration.
Study plans contain sufficient drawings to price out materials or obtain a professional bid; the cost of study plans is credited if complete plans are later ordered. Complete plans include rights to build one boat, plus reasonable consultation during construction.
