CAPE
COD BAY This design was prepared as a simple to build modification of the popular Cape Cod catboat. Like all catboats, she provides good accommodations for her length and a cruising couple would find her cabin to be quite comfortable and snug. It's over 6 foot wide and has berths over 6 foot long with good sitting headroom. Too, the large self-bailing cockpit will make an extra "cabin for the family when fitted with a good boom tent. Construction has been kept simple with the amateur builder in mind. The hull, deck and cabin are of plywood over sawn frames of fir, or mahogany if preferred. The bottom is in 2 easy-to-bend layers and the fastenings are epoxy glue and ring barb boat nails. There is nothing in this straight forward design that will pose a problem to a competent amateur craftsman Power is provided by a small outboard of 5-9 h.p. and will move her nicely. A 12 gallon fuel tank is fitted, along with 12-24 gallons of water. Tremendous stability is inherent in the beamy catboat hull and she has ample sail area to move her along in light weather. Three deep reefs are provided for those dusty days when the going gets heavy, and the halyards are led aft to the cockpit for ease of sail handling If you are looking for an able, comfortable and simple-to-build cruising boat then give the CAPE COD BAY, or her larger sister the CAPE COD CAT, your serious consideration. Either will provide a maximum of pleasure for a minimum of cost.
