BLUE JEANS
A 47' Cutter for fibreglass construction
Brewer Design #97

BLUE JEANS was designed for an owner who wanted a classically styled, flush decked cutter with accommodations for extended voyages and live-aboard use. She is an able craft that can go anywhere yet, with only 5'0" draft with the centerboard up she will be able to poke her bow into many of the lovely gunkholes restricted to deep draft hulls.

Construction is of cored fibreglass with teak decks over fibreglass covered plywood, on laminated beams. Plans for steel construction are available and will produce a strong hull but, of course, of somewhat heavier displacement than the FRP version.

The keel stepped mast is strongly stayed with double spreaders and running backstays. With only a 393 sq. ft. mainsail BLUE JEANS' cutter rig is easily handled by a small crew. Her flush deck arrangement also adds to ease and safety as it provides a wide, safe platform for handling sail. There is ample sail area to give lively performance but she can be quickly snugged down when it comes on to a blow.

The arrangement provides permanent berths for up to 5 and features a spacious owner's cabin. A large galley assures a well fed crew and there is very generous stowage throughout, as is necessary on a long distance, blue water cruiser. Knowledgeable skippers will appreciate the focs'l with its very useful work bench and storage.

Access to her diesel engine is good and any unit of 35-45 hp will provide good cruising speeds and a long range with her ample tankage.

No yacht is perfect but BLUE JEANS proved to be a comfortable retirement home for her lucky builder/owners. She is also a handsome vessel that took them wherever they wanted to go, in safety and comfort.
