TROUBADOR
A 42' Pilot House Sloop
Brewer Design #199

TROUBADOR was designed for a client who wanted a fast pilot house sloop with classic styling above water combined with a modern NACA fin/skeg underbody. The fully developed aluminum hull is built to sturdy scantlings with both transverse and longitudinal framing. Built-in tanks of generous capacity allow a wide cruising range and a husky 46 hp diesel gives her ample speed to buck tidal currents when the breeze fails.

The accommodations provide a comfortable owner's cabin forward, roomy saloon with generous stowage for books and gear, a very workable galley, commodious head with stall shower and a spacious wheelhouse with settee converting to a double berth and a complete navigator's area.

There are many drawers and lockers throughout the yacht, providing the storage capacity required by the long range voyager or liveaboard. The cockpit is amply large for daysailing with guests and has good stowage for sails and gear.

The hull is not a lightweight and has adequate displacement to carry ample stores for long voyages. However, sail area in the tall 7/8 sloop rig is quite generous and, with a low wetted surface, TROUBADOR has proven fast in light airs. In keeping with sturdiness, the rig is supported by both jumper stays and running backstays; a true belt and braces approach.

TROUBADOR is a pleasant marriage of the modern and traditional in design and construction. Her nicely balanced ends and sweet sheer attract the eye while the performance potential of her tall rig and modern underbody will please the owner who loves to sail. It was a great pleasure to work with a client who wanted his yacht to look like a yacht instead of a rocketship.

Available for aluminum or epoxy strip/laminated wood construction.
