NORTHEAST
A 47' Auxiliary Cutter for steel construction
Brewer Design #145

NORTHEAST was designed for a client who wanted a husky, go-anywhere steel cruiser for long range voyaging and permanent live aboard use. The hull form is of the radius bilge shape that we pioneered in the '70s and it provides the aesthetic appearance of a round bilge hull along with its reduced turbulence, yet is simple enough for amateur construction. The lateral plane is of full keel form with "Brewer bite" and will have good directional stability in heavy seas.

The center cockpit layout provides permanent berths for 6-7 in three private areas, along with such amenities as a roomy galley with diesel stove, a work bench, two heads (one with a stall shower, spacious nav area, wet locker, and all the other necessities of a seagoing yacht. There is generous stowage throughout, from the large forepeak to the aft owner's stateroom with its own head and desk/vanity.

The cockpit is of good size, set high for visibility, and far enough aft to be dry in a seaway. A permanent dodger can be fitted if desired. Flush decks with bulwarks all around assure a wide, safe working platform for the all inboard rig and there is ample space to stow the dinghy on deck for those longer passages.

The tall rig provides good sail area for offshore voyaging and the keel stepped mast is strongly stayed with double spreaders and running backstays. Fittings such as the lazyjacks and the permanent boom gallows also attest to the offshore ability of this husky yacht.

NORTHEAST is a rugged cruiser for the skipper whose eyes are on far horizons. She will prove to be a comfortable home afloat, at sea or in port, and is definitely the type of vessel that will take you wherever you want to go and bring you back again in safety.
